The name is linked to Samuel Wilson, a meat packer from Troy, New York, who supplied barrels of beef to the United States Army during the War of 1812. Wilson stamped the barrels with “U.S.” for United States, but soldiers began referring to the meat as “Uncle Sam's.”

To bring this historic figure to life, Steiff is pleased to present a patriotic musical bear that plays the tune “America, the beautiful”. This brass curly mohair Teddy bear wears a handmade patriotic white felt hat, an “Uncle Sam” pin, and a red silk bow tie, all of which have been air brushed for an antique effect. Fully jointed.
