TIN MAN™
R. John Wright Dolls Inc., Wizard of Oz™ Collection
18", 2013, Faithfully based on the beloved character immortalized by Jack Haley in the 1939 film, Tin Man™ has been brought to life by R. JOHN WRIGHT DOLLS for the first time in the medium of molded felt.
Jack Haley (1898 1979) was an American stage, radio, and film actor best known for his portrayal of the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz. In the classic film Haley also played "Hickory", one of three farmhands that Dorothy re-imagines as the Tin Man. Before his extensive work in films, Haley starred in vaudeville as a song-and-dance comedian. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer hired Haley for The Wizard of Oz after another song-and-dance comic, Buddy Ebsen, who was originally set to play the Tin Man, had a near-fatal reaction from inhaling the aluminum dust makeup. The makeup was switched to a paste, to avoid risking the same reaction for Haley.
The Tin Man™ from R. John Wright Dolls is faithfully based on the original motion picture images. The Tin Man™ is fully jointed at the shoulders, hips, knees, elbows and neck with the R. John Wright ball & socket jointing system with an internal wood mechanism. Under his costume, the Tin Man™ has a realistic molded felt torso and limbs and under his gloves his amazing sculptural felt hands have individually sewn fingers! The molded felt character face has been finely modeled in a true likeness with hand painted features and a metallic complexion.
Extensively researched for the utmost in authenticity, Tin Man's™ costume has been recreated in miniature out of coated buckram fabric - just as the original was. Joined with metal rivets and accessorized with gloves and a funnel hat, no detail been spared to bring this iconic film character vividly to life.
The 'RJW' brass button will be affixed to each doll as a lasting mark of identification and a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity will be included inside the deluxe Wizard of Oz™ presentation box.
